Hart Lake: Dreaming about fly fishing BC

Hart Lake is a popular fly fishing lake in British Columbia’s
northern interior. The lake is located about 70 km
north of Prince George , and lies within the Crooked
River Provincial Park. Since 1983, the lake has been stocked with
rainbow trout annually. Gas motors are not permitted.
Local fishing guide and author, Lewis Johnson,
says the lake is good fishing throughout most of the season.
In spring, Johnson suggests matching the
hatch with either a chironomid, mayfly (peacock) nymph or
micro leech pattern.
In the summer, he recommends trolling with a sinking line as
the fish are usually found deeper in the lake.
Johnson has provided two popular patterns for fishing Hart
Lake—a woolly bugger and mayfly (peacock) nymph.

ACCESS:
To get to Hart Lake, head north from Prince George on
Highway 97 for approximately 70 km.
The lake is just east of the highway, right before
the town of Bear Lake. There is a parking lot located just off
the highway, then follow a trail for 200 metres which
brings you to the lake.
